Microcosm Dailes: Day 2

By Erik | June 4, 2008

How we doing, Nun Stoppers?

We’re over the hump for production! Three days in the can, two to go. Four hours of footage shot, six scenes done and a whole lot of Monster drank by yours’ truly. I’m very happy with what I’ve been seeing, especially Mikel’s Dad! How many times have I put my mouth over my face to hold back the laughter I haven’t any idea, but it’s been quite a bit. I love absurdest humor, but seem to have a hard time implementing it in my work. This time I think I’ve got it.

Anyways, here are the dailies from Day 2. We’ve got a dolly shot which was done by doing this over on 3rd Street in Wausau:

Faux Dolly from Microcosm

As you saw from the first day of shooting we have a standard homemade dolly too, but our track wasn’t nearly long enough for that whole shot. So on the car we went and then pushed it so we wouldn’t get any engine noise in the shot. This is independent filmmaking at it’s finest. That shot has cinematographer Lee Vaughter on the trunk of the car with the camera, assistant camera Alex Ackert on the left side of the frame and dolly grip Travis Welsh on the right side of the frame.

Then we’ve got some stuff down over at Big Bull Falls Park. Nothing fancy there, just basic coverage on sticks. Enjoy:

Oh, and no fish costume yet. We’ll see if I’ll save that for the final product, or show you all some of it from yesterday when I put up day 3.
